Goals for the Future

I feel that my University course, and modules I have undertaken during my two years, have helped me to realise where I want to be in the future, and what I want to be doing. When I arrived at Birmingham City University, I was unclear in what sector of the Media I wanted to specialise in, so I opted to take the Broad Course. After my first year, it became very clear, that I wanted to work within the Journalism field more than anything, as this is what I enjoyed the most, and felt was my strongest skills I had learnt during my First Year. Attending University has not only helped my learning, but has developed me as a person, and gave me a greater confidence in what I can achieve. My skills and determination has really put me to the test that I am capable, and I can succeed.

In the next six months, I'd like to see myself having a bit more experience within the Journalism field, as I would like to take up as as many opportunities as possible, to improve my learning, and improve my skills. I want to experience different areas of Journalism. I have already successfully arranged a weeks work experience with the Birmingham Post, working in their newsroom, which I am really looking forward to, and it will offer me a lot of experience, and I can learn a lot about how newspapers work. I will also continue to write as a freelancer for Hello Birmingham and The Pavement, to get my work published and out there. I have also gained a keen interest in Broadcast Journalism, after studying it last semester, so I'd like to try out some experience in that.

In the next three years, I would have liked to see myself graduate from University, with a 2:1 specialising in Journalism. I hope that I will still be gaining experience over the years, in order to improve my skills. I also have been looking into the National Council for Training Journalists, and I hope that I will be able to complete a Masters Degree of one of the courses they offer, in order for me to gain more experiences and skills, and in the end make me more employable.

In the far future, I aspire to be a really successful journalist, working on a popular magazine or newspaper. I would really like to have my own column or a regular part in a product in order to establish myself as a real name in Journalism. Eventually, I would like to move into teaching, to share what I had learnt over the years to other aspiring journalists.
