Work Experience

I have taken up a number of opportunities within my studies in order to enhance my knowledge.

Rev-Alt
Rev-Alt is a website specialising in 'bringing the alternative community together'. I spent 3 months working with the team at Rev-Alt, often meeting with the Editor and Website designer, to discuss what I could bring to the website. I wrote most of the introductions to all the pages on the website, and also had a go at writing an article comparing them to other similar websites. I enjoyed the time I spent working with the team, even though what their website was about, wasn't really to do with my interests, I saw it as an exciting and different challenge to accept.

Hello Birmingham
Hello Birmingham is a online magazine specialising in the area of Birmingham! I started writing for the team in January, and am still currently contributing. I write all different articles for their website to do with Fashion, Entertainment, Sports, Events and everything that is happening around Birmingham. I am also hoping to be involved with their Style on the Street articles over the holidays, where I will go out and interview various stylish people around the city, and I have also been offered the odd day to work in the office with the team. I really enjoy working for them, and it's fun to write new and exciting articles about everything that is going on within the city that I live in.

Bournville News
Bournville News is an online news blog about everything in the area of Bournville. I saw this opportunity advertised on my Unviersity Blog, as it's run by one of my lecturers. I have only just started contributing for the website, and I am currently really enjoying it, as it's another new and different area of Journalism to focus on. My first article has just been published on the the website which I am really pleased about.

The Pavement
The Pavement is a free monthly magazine for the homeless, that started out in London, and now has branched out to Birmingham. I received this opportunity within my student email account, and thought that I'd apply, and thought it would be another new and different product to write for. I only started working for them mid-March, so I am currently in the process of writing my article for their April issue. The Editor sends us ideas for articles every month and we have to choose which ones we would be most interested in writing.

Student Doc
I have just taken on a role for contributing to online magazine and blog called Student Docs. I am going to be writing various articles aimed at students on sports, weight, drug use, alcohol consumption and sex stories. I am really looking forward to taking on this opportunity as I will be writing for my age range!

Birmingham Post/Mail
Birmingham Post and Mail, are popular daily newspapers around the Birmingham Area. I am going to undertake a weeks Work Experience within the company in October, which I am really looking forward to. It will be new and interesting, and a real insight for my future, to be part of a newsroom and see how they work, as I have only been able to witness a mock-up newsroom on my University course.

BrumNotes
I am currently in talks with the Editor at Birmingham Music magazine BrumNotes about completing some Work Experience with them, where I have been offered spending a few days in their office, and also contributing to their website and magazine. I really hope this is an opportunity I get chance to take up, as it would be great to have more experience and be new and different for me to write for a Music magazine.

I am currently looking for more Work Experience in the Journalism field, 2/3 weeks worth.
